I’ve watched the show “Heroes” since its first episode. Even today, I await Tuesday mornings to fire up Hulu and watch the prior night’s episode. (I work nights so I can only watch most shows during the day.)
The first season was great. They had an over-arcing story that drew the entire season together and had a good final outcome. Since then, though, it’s been pretty bad.
Season 2 was rife with inconsistencies and confusion. It was as if the writers had some great ideas, but no clear goal on where they wanted to end up. Season 3 was just as bad.
Season 3 tried too hard to cover too much ground. Instead of having one solid idea and one solid destination, they had dozens of ideas and just as many destinations. Where they could have taken each idea and focused an entire season on each, they shoved them all into one failing to really give any single one the chance it deserved.
Season 4, the current season, had the potential in the beginning to turn everything around. They had a definite bad guy again. There was some animosity over some of the characters, but most had a goal. That goal: Kill the bad guy, of course.
But that’s all they’ve had so far. There’s the bad guy, everyone (including his own people) know it, but no one is willing to really do anything about it. No one is willing to stand up, say, “Fuck this shit,” and kill the guy, and not for lack of opportunity either.
At this point everyone, including the bad guy, need to just give up the whole “we’re scared to come out of the hero closet” thing. Pull on some spandex, start flying, or healing, or hell, brutally murdering if that’s your thing.
Admit to the world you’re there, you have these powers, and if anyone comes after you, you have friends that will help you. Start being Heroes and stop being big fat wusses scared of your own shadows already.
